Product Description

1TB NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 2280 Solid State Drive SSD

High-performance 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 2280 SSD designed for modern laptops, desktops, workstations, and mini PCs. Using the PCI Express 3.0 x4 interface and NVMe protocol, this drive delivers dramatically faster boot times and application loads compared with 2.5" SATA or M.2 SATA SSDs. Ideal as a primary OS drive or high-speed scratch disk for content creation, CAD, virtualization, and gaming systems that support M.2 NVMe.

This model is for M.2 PCIe NVMe slots only. It is not compatible with M.2 SATA-only slots.

Technical Specifications

  • Capacity: 1TB
  • Form Factor: M.2 2280 (22mm x 80mm)
  • Interface: PCI Express 3.0 x4
  • Protocol: NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express), NVMe 1.2 / 1.3 (model dependent)
  • Connector Keying: M-key edge connector
  • NAND Flash: 3D NAND (TLC / QLC depending on OEM model)
  • Sequential Read: up to ~3,400 MB/s (model dependent)
  • Sequential Write: up to ~3,000 MB/s (model dependent)
  • Random 4K Read/Write: up to ~500K / 450K IOPS typical (model dependent)

⭐ Recommended M.2 SSD Mounting Screw - Sold Separately

Need a replacement screw to secure this M.2 2280 SSD? Add the M2 x 3mm Phillips Pan Head Screw for M.2 SSD Mounting to your order.
This mounting screw is designed for systems with an existing M2-threaded standoff and is commonly used to secure M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs.
Please verify that your device uses an M2 x 3mm screw. Some systems use a captive screw, retention clip, different screw size, or proprietary mounting hardware. Screw sold separately.

⭐ Recommended External Enclosure - Sold Separately

Use this SSD externally for cloning, testing, data recovery, drive imaging, or portable storage with the CPU Medics M.2 PCIe NVMe to USB-C External SSD Enclosure.

  • Enclosure Item Number: CM-PCINVME-USBC
  • Supported SSD Lengths: M.2 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280
  • SSD Interface: M-key PCIe NVMe
  • Host Interface: USB-C / USB 3.1
  • Maximum Interface Rate: Up to 10Gbps
  • Controller: ASMedia ASM2362
  • Power: USB-powered; no external power adapter required
  • Important: The enclosure accepts PCIe/NVMe SSDs and does not accept M.2 SATA drives

The enclosure's USB link has less bandwidth than an internal PCIe Gen3 x4 connection, so external transfer speeds will be lower than the SSD may achieve when installed directly in a compatible system.

✅ Confirmed Compatibility

Please note that the following list is not exhaustive. Compatibility requires an M.2 2280 (22mm x 80mm) M-key storage socket wired for PCIe/NVMe and an 80mm retention point. Some systems were sold with different storage configurations, so verify the actual socket, mounting hardware, and service documentation before ordering. This PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD operates at the host's lower speed in reduced-lane systems and at Gen3 speed in compatible PCIe Gen4 or Gen5 sockets.

✔️ Desktop Motherboard Socket Notes: Use an M.2 socket that supports 2280 PCIe/NVMe. Depending on the board, processor, and selected socket, a secondary M.2 connector may operate at x2, use an older PCIe generation, support SATA only, become disabled, or share lanes with SATA or PCIe connectors. Consult the exact board manual before installation
✔️ PCIe Expansion-Card Applications: Compatible desktop computers can use this SSD through a suitable M-key NVMe-to-PCIe adapter; operating-system use requires NVMe driver support, while boot-drive use also requires firmware with NVMe boot support
✔️ External USB-C Applications: Compatible with the separately sold CM-PCINVME-USBC enclosure for cloning, testing, recovery, imaging, and portable storage

⚙️ Fit Notes

  • Confirm the storage bay accepts M.2 2280 (22mm x 80mm) and supports M-key PCIe/NVMe storage.
  • Not compatible with M.2 SATA-only sockets, B-key-only sockets, mSATA, mini-PCIe, U.2, or bays limited to shorter modules.
  • PCIe Gen3 x4 drives operate at the host’s supported speed when installed in x2, Gen4, or Gen5 sockets.
  • Verify the actual socket and system configuration. Some systems require a chassis-specific screw, bracket, caddy, cable, thermal plate, or insulating pad that is not included with a bare SSD.
  • Component placement and single- or double-sided construction may vary by the exact interchangeable model supplied; verify clearance in ultrathin systems.
  • Using an M.2 socket may affect SATA ports or PCIe lane allocation. NVMe boot use also requires compatible system firmware.
  • Replacing a boot drive may require cloning or reinstalling the operating system. Performance, endurance, NAND type, DRAM cache, encryption features, and formatted capacity vary by model and configuration.
