Smart Array P400 512MB BBWC SAS PCIe RAID Controller Kit

The 405162-B21 is a complete Smart Array P400 internal SAS and SATA RAID controller kit featuring a low-profile PCIe x8 controller and 512MB of battery-backed write cache. The included BBWC module protects unwritten cached data during a power interruption and enables advanced controller functions such as RAID 6 with ADG, online array expansion, logical drive extension, RAID migration and stripe-size migration.

This kit includes the P400 controller board, 512MB cache module, 4.8V Ni-MH battery, 11.5-inch battery cable and two 24-inch internal SAS data cables.

• Verify that the system has a compatible PCIe x8 slot and the correct low-profile or full-height mounting bracket.
• Confirm that the included 361316-011 SAS cables match the server’s backplane connectors and required routing length.
• The included battery cable is the 11.5-inch 409124-001 / 408658-001 version.
• Some tower and full-height rack installations require the longer 24-inch 409125-001 / 408658-002 battery cable or the 417836-B21 battery attach kit.
• The battery may require charging before protected write-back cache becomes active.
• A failed or discharged battery can cause the controller to temporarily disable write-back caching and RAID 6 functionality.
• The complete PCIe controller kit is not a direct replacement for an integrated P400i controller. Individual cache, battery and cable components may still cross-fit supported P400i configurations.
• P410, P410i, P411 and later controller generations use different cache modules, battery arrangements and cabling.
• Verify controller firmware support before installing newer drives or creating logical drives larger than 2TB.
• Power down the system and use proper electrostatic-discharge precautions during installation.
