⚙️ Fit Notes

  • This is a 3.5-inch desktop PATA/IDE drive. It is not interchangeable with a 2.5-inch 44-pin notebook drive.
  • It is not compatible with SATA, SCSI, SAS, proprietary hot-swap, or backplane-only connections.
  • The drive requires both a 40-pin IDE ribbon cable and a separate 4-pin peripheral power connector.
  • Use the jumper diagram printed on the actual drive to select Master, Slave, or Cable Select. Jumper locations vary between models.
  • When using Cable Select, both devices on the ATA channel must be configured for Cable Select. The black end connector is normally master and the gray middle connector is normally slave.
  • An 80-conductor ATA cable is recommended for ATA-66 or ATA-100 operation even though the connector still contains 40 pins.
  • The drive can negotiate a slower transfer mode when connected to an older ATA controller.
  • A 10.2GB drive exceeds the classic 8.4GB BIOS barrier. Update the system BIOS or use a compatible PCI ATA controller if the drive is not detected correctly.
  • The 32GB BIOS barrier does not normally affect this drive because its capacity is below 32GB.
  • Set BIOS drive detection to Auto or LBA when those options are available.
  • Partitioning, formatting, and operating-system installation or image restoration are required before use.
  • Systems using FAT16 may require multiple partitions. A compatible FAT32 or other supported filesystem is generally required for a single partition larger than 2GB.
  • Marketed capacities vary slightly between 10GB, 10.1GB, 10.2GB, and 10.24GB conventions. For sector-by-sector cloning, verify that the replacement drive’s total LBA count is equal to or greater than the source drive.
  • Industrial, POS, kiosk, laboratory, and self-service equipment may require an exact boot image, partition layout, CHS geometry, firmware revision, ATA security state, or software license.
  • If the equipment requires an exact drive model or firmware, order that exact part number instead of a general functional substitute.
  • Do not hot-plug a PATA drive. Disconnect AC power before installation.
  • A drive caddy, mounting rails, screws, ribbon cable, recovery image, and operating system are not included unless specifically stated.
