OEM desktop compatibility is configuration-specific. The computer must contain an AM3 motherboard with BIOS support for the Phenom II X4 965 C3 and power delivery rated for a 125W processor. Model names alone are not sufficient because manufacturers used different motherboards within some product families.

• This is the C3-stepping 125W HDZ965FBK4DGM processor. Do not confuse it with HDZ965FBK4DGI, which is the earlier C2-stepping 140W version.
• Confirm that the motherboard specifically supports the Phenom II X4 965 125W C3 processor. Generic AM3 socket compatibility is not sufficient.
• Motherboard revision matters. Different revisions of the same board model may have different CPU-support limits, voltage-regulator designs, and minimum BIOS versions.
• OEM computer model compatibility depends on the motherboard installed in the individual system. Manufacturers sometimes used multiple motherboard revisions under the same desktop model.
• Update the motherboard BIOS to a supported version before removing the currently working processor whenever possible.
• The motherboard must have a voltage-regulator design capable of supporting a 125W processor. Boards limited to 65W or 95W CPUs are not compatible.
• Select AM2+ motherboards may support this AM3 processor because it contains a DDR2 memory controller, but compatibility requires explicit motherboard-manufacturer BIOS and 125W support.
• This processor will not fit or operate in Socket AM2-only, FM1, FM2, FM2+, AM1, AM4, AM5, Intel, or mobile processor sockets.
• This processor does not include integrated graphics. The system requires either motherboard-integrated graphics or a separate compatible graphics card.
• A properly rated AM3 heatsink and cooling fan are required for the processor’s 125W thermal load.
• Remove all old thermal compound from the processor and heatsink before installation. Apply a fresh layer of Shin-Etsu G751 before reinstalling the heatsink.
• The unlocked multiplier permits overclocking, but overclocking increases heat and power consumption and requires appropriate motherboard power delivery and cooling.
• This listing includes the CPU processor only. The heatsink, cooling fan, thermal paste, motherboard, memory, and all other accessories are sold separately.
