Product Description

128GB PCIe NVMe M.2 2230 Gen3 Solid State Drive for Surface Steam Deck HP ASUS and Raspberry Pi

This 128GB internal solid state drive is built for systems that use the short M.2 2230 form factor and PCIe NVMe storage. It is an excellent replacement for compact laptops, tablets, detachable computers, handheld gaming PCs, rugged systems, mini PCs, industrial edge devices, and supported Raspberry Pi configurations.

The exact manufacturer, label, controller, firmware, NAND, keying, and PCIe lane count will vary by part number. The confirmed native Gen3 replacement pool includes both Gen3 x4 and Gen3 x2 models; a Gen3 x2 drive remains NVMe-compatible but operates with two PCIe lanes instead of four. Later Gen4 references are separated below because backward operation and boot support must be verified for the exact host.

What's Included

  • One 128GB M.2 2230 PCIe NVMe solid state drive

✅ Compatibility

Compatibility requires an M.2 storage socket wired for PCIe/NVMe, a suitable 2230 mounting point or mechanical converter, supported system firmware, and adequate physical clearance. Systems were often sold with multiple storage configurations, so verify the actual socket, bracket, shield, and service documentation before ordering. For newer hosts whose OEM capacity tables begin at 256GB, 128GB indicates physical and electrical compatibility rather than an OEM-qualified capacity.

✔️ 2280-Mount NVMe Systems With Converter: Compatible systems with an M-key NVMe socket and 2280 retention point may use this 2230 drive with CPU Medics adapter CPU-2230-2280 when component height, thermal-pad placement, and cover clearance permit
✔️ Verified Correction for Microsoft Surface Go Tablets: Surface Go tablets of every generation are not compatible because their internal storage is not removable; do not confuse Surface Go with the compatible Surface Laptop Go family retained above
✔️ Verified Correction for Latitude 3190: Latitude 3190 and Latitude 3190 2-in-1 are not compatible with this NVMe drive because their M.2 storage interface is SATA; the prior-page 3190 2-in-1 reference is retained here as a documented correction
✔️ Verified Correction for Inspiron 3481 and 3482: Inspiron 14 3481, Inspiron 3481, and Inspiron 14 3482 are not direct 2230 fits because their service manuals specify longer 2242/2260/2280 storage lengths; the prior-page references are retained here as a documented correction
✔️ Verified Raspberry Pi Exclusion: Plain Raspberry Pi 500 is not compatible because it lacks both an internal M.2 socket and the Raspberry Pi 5-style PCIe FFC connector

⚙️ Fit Notes

  • This is a PCIe NVMe M.2 2230 SSD and is not a SATA M.2 drive.
  • Confirm that the host socket is wired for PCIe/NVMe storage. Never install the drive in a 2230 A-key or E-key Wi-Fi socket.
  • Confirm the exact drive length. A 2230 module measures 22mm x 30mm and is not the same as a 2242, 2260, or 2280 module.
  • Most listed drives are M-key. The specifically identified Gen3 x2 industrial references may be B+M-key and require a mechanically and electrically suitable NVMe socket.
  • Lane width varies. Gen3 x2 drives operate with two lanes and must not be expected to match Gen3 x4 throughput.
  • Later Gen4 references are listed separately. Confirm host firmware, boot support, security requirements, and OEM qualification before substituting them into a Gen3 system.
  • Some systems accept multiple SSD lengths but require the correct screw position, standoff, carrier, support bracket, heat shield, or thermal pad.
  • Surface Laptop Studio and Surface Laptop Studio 2 require reuse of the device-specific SSD carrier and thermal material.
  • Optional HP 2230 secondary-storage sockets can be data-only, mutually exclusive with WWAN, or dependent on an OEM support kit.
  • Raspberry Pi 5 requires supported M.2 HAT+ hardware and runs the SSD over PCIe Gen2 x1. Raspberry Pi 500+ and the official Compute Module 5 IO Board provide native M-key mounting but remain host-lane limited.
  • The CPU Medics 2230-to-2280 adapter changes mounting length only. It does not convert SATA to NVMe, change keying, create a storage interface in a WLAN socket, add PCIe lanes, or change capacity.
  • For adapter installations, confirm component height, thermal-pad placement, screw alignment, and cover clearance before assembly.
  • Capacity, firmware revision, NAND, controller, cache design, security features, and performance can vary by exact part number and production lot.
  • For systems whose OEM capacity list begins at 256GB, this page indicates physical and electrical fit only and does not claim factory qualification at 128GB.
  • Back up important data, save the BitLocker recovery key when applicable, and prepare model-specific operating-system recovery media before replacing a boot drive.
